Simply Vib’s Babbling - In the Sixth Dimension

I’ve to admit it; I was too kind to write a nasty letter to Popular. And perhaps too busy too. I’m roughly 10 days from ORD and I realised that my weekends are now so packed with work that I won’t be able to learn any driving on the weekends and will have to depend on the weekdays I am free after I ORD. I hope to get a job fast and not sink into the puddle of resting and end up being in the ocean of slacking. Looks like it is going to be difficult.

On the very first day of 2010, I went down to Popular bookstore to get some work desk supplies for the new year. I was cleaning my laptop keyboard the other day and found that the keyboard cover was a little dirty so I thought of changing it. These rubbery stuff usually costs $20-$30 bucks so I thought I stumbled on a steal when I saw one at Popular that had a yellow promotion sticker that says $18.90.

Price Tag

Start or End?

I paid for all my stuff and found the total sum to be more than what I expected substantially. I examined the receipt and discovered that they were charging me the original price of $26.90 for the keyboard cover, exactly $8 more than what I expected to pay. After checking back at the cashier, they claimed that the special price is over and I am not going to be given a refund (ie I can’t cancel my purchase for a good whose price I didn’t intend to pay); I’m only allowed to exchange for something else. I was fuming – if not for the special price I won’t even have spent so much there, exchanging doesn’t make a difference to me since there’s nothing else I’m hoping to purchase from the shop. I wanted to ask for a voucher to exchange to but decided to exercise social pressure instead – which explains this entry.

The main point of contention is the date that is printed on the yellow tag as shown in the picture here. There’s no indication as to whether it demonstrates the start date or the end date of the special price. I naturally assume it denotes the start dates since it would be stupid on the part of the bookstore to leave the wrong price tag on the item when the special price is no longer available. On the contrary, putting a start date makes more sense although it might cause people to postpone their purchase. Either way, it is wrong of them to leave the special price tag on the item when the special price is no longer available.

When I find the time, I’m going to write the big guys a letter.
